Five Nicotine Strengths at Snuzone

At Snuzone, you will find a wide range of nicotine pouches and snus products. To help you find the right product for you, it's worth considering both the flavour aspects and the nicotine strength.

Different brands use different systems to indicate nicotine strength. Velo, for example, uses dots on their cans, while Klint uses numbered strength levels. Other brands, such as Pablo snus, focus on products with higher nicotine content and may not use a dot or number scale on their packaging.

So how can you compare products across brands? One useful starting point is the nicotine content, measured in milligrams per gram (mg/g). At Snuzone, we group products into five strength categories: Light, Medium, Stronger, Extra Strong, and Ultra Strong.

Snuzone Strength Scale and Nicotine Content

The nicotine content in mg/g for the individual Snuzone strength categories is as follows, allowing you to see at a glance which products are suitable for whom within each strength category:

Strength Category Nicotine Content Suitable for
Light 1-5 mg/g Beginners
Medium 6-9 mg/g Occasional users, smokers and vapers
Strong 10-14 mg/g Regular users, smokers and vapers
Extra Strong 15-20 mg/g Experienced users, including smokers and vapers
Ultra Strong 21-65 mg/g very experienced users

Nicotine content in mg/g is only part of the picture. Another useful figure is the nicotine content per pouch, measured in mg/pouch. This tells you how much nicotine each pouch contains and can help you compare products more accurately.

How Do You Calculate Nicotine Content per Pouch?

Nicotine content in mg/g is a common way for manufacturers to label their products. Many now also state the amount of nicotine per pouch. If this information isn't provided on the packaging, you can calculate it using the pouch weight and the nicotine content in mg/g:

Nicotine per pouch = pouch weight (g) x nicotine content (mg/g)

For example, for an ultra-strong product containing 65 mg/g of nicotine, with slim pouches weighing 0.7 g each, contains 45.5 mg of nicotine per pouch.

Is Nicotine Content the Only Factor That Determines Snus Strength?

Not necessarily. The perceived strength and effect of snus depend on more than its nicotine content. One key factor is moisture, which can affect how quickly nicotine is released from a pouch. In general, nicotine may be released more quickly from moist pouches than from dry ones, which can contribute to a faster onset of effects.
However, nicotine being released from a pouch doesn't mean it has already been absorbed by the body. The form of nicotine also matters. Different nicotine forms can influence how readily it passes through the lining of the mouth. One example is nicotine polacrilex, a form of nicotine bound to an ion-exchange resin that is also used in nicotine replacement products such as nicotine gum. Free-base nicotine, by contrast, is the unbound form of nicotine. The pH of a product influences the proportion of nicotine present in this form. A higher pH generally means a greater proportion of uncharged nicotine, which may affect how readily it is absorbed through the oral mucosa. A stronger burning or tingling sensation under the upper lip can occur with some products, but it isn't a reliable way to determine their nicotine content or how much nicotine your body will absorb. Manufacturers can therefore influence a product's so-called effect profile through factors such as nicotine content, moisture, pH and the form of nicotine used. However, no single factor relaibly predicts how strong a product will feel or how quickly its effects will be felt.

As a rule of thumb: nicotine content per pouch, moisture and pH can all help explain differences between products, but they don't tell the whole story. The perceived strength and effects can vary from one product to another and especially from person to person.
